Reading is at the heart of education. The knowledge of almost every subject in school flows from reading. If a child cannot read… or falls behind… it affects their entire report card. Worse, it destroys their desire and enthusiasm to learn and to become educated.
- In Kindergarten, virtually all children are excited about books and reading.
- By the 4th grade, only 54% of children read for pleasure.
- By the 8th grade, only 30% read for pleasure.
